The free advanced course is available now at LearnGlazing.com and joins a growing library of more than 40 courses created to help glazing companies train new hires, support field teams, and standardize knowledge across their operations.

Glass guardrails have become a fixture of modern commercial architecture, appearing on stairs, balconies, mezzanines, and rooftop terraces on projects of every size. They are also one of the most demanding scopes a glazing contractor can take on. Guardrails are structural components subject to strict code requirements, and mistakes in system selection, glass fabrication, or layout can lead to failed inspections, rework, and real safety risk.

Building on the terminology covered in LearnGlazing’s Introduction to Glass Guardrails course, this program takes a practical, system-driven approach focused on real-world application, fabrication implications, and field coordination. Using shop drawing style CAD details and real project photography, the course walks learners through:

  • Post-mounted guardrail systems, including how posts anchor to the stair stringer, clamp and bolt-through bracket options, and why spacing at corners and transitions drives glass panel sizing
  • Base-shoe mounted guardrail systems, including how the continuous aluminum channel carries the glass, why the system delivers a clean appearance with strong performance, and how precise layout affects glass size and fabrication
  • Glass fabrication callouts that PMs and estimators see on real shop drawings, including laminated glass makeups, structural interlayers, flat polished edges, and seamed edges
  • How system selection impacts field layout, measurement, and coordination between the fabricator and the installation crew

By the end of the course, learners can anticipate challenges before they reach the jobsite and contribute more effectively to guardrail projects from estimating through installation.

LearnGlazing.com is approved by the North American Contractor Certification (NACC) and the Architectural Glass and Metal Technician (AGMT) certification program for continuing education within their certification programs. The Commercial Guardrails course is also registered for American Institute of Architects (AIA) continuing education, earning qualified members 1 LU/HSW credit upon completion.
